About the Club
The Calgary Dance Club (formerly the University of Calgary Ballroom Dance Club) is Calgary’s longest running and biggest dance club, currently about 500 members strong. Since 1975, we’ve been offering a friendly, social place to learn and dance.
As a volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization, we encourage and promote ballroom
dancing through instruction and practice in a social atmosphere.
We’re not just another dance studio…
The club is run on a cost-recovery basis, meaning we are in this for the love of dance, and not to make a profit.
The Calgary Dance Club is a member-based organization. This means that, as a member, your opinion on how the club is run matters. We welcome your input through regular surveys, attending the Annual General Meeting (typically in November each year), approaching members of the executive, or running for a club executive position (link to how we run your club).
We teach in YOUR community. For your convenience, we run classes in a variety of venues across Calgary and in Cochrane. Find the location that best suits you.
We teach many different classes each week from September to May, throughout Calgary and area.
We teach one dance per 60-minute period in the social and international classes. This helps members focus on and develop their skills in a single dance for the entire hour.
Our highly trained volunteer Teaching Assistants are on hand in every class to support your learning with their enthusiasm, gentle encouragement, and extensive knowledge of the dance you’re learning.
We love to dance so much that we offer practice time: We have training sessions every Sunday staffed by Teaching Assistants to help those in Levels 1 and 2 in social and country. Check our events calendar and our online store to register.
We ask that members register for classes that match their skill level to ensure successful learning and enjoyment. When members are in the appropriate class, the whole class benefits. Currently, the club conducts auditions, to ensure learners are registered for the appropriate class. If we see that you might not be getting the most out of a class, we’ll work with you to transfer you to a more suitable class at no additional cost to you.
