If you’ve ever watched “Dancing with the Stars,” you have probably seen the Rumba in action! This theatrical dance can be utilized to relate stories of love and passion between a male dancer and his sometimes shy, often teasing partner. Full of sensual movements, the Rumba is considered by many to be the sexiest of the ballroom dances. Doesn’t that sound like fun?! So, what are you waiting for? Let’s start dancing today!
Rumba is a slow Latin-American dance of Cuban origin. After being introduced to the United States in the 1920s, Rumba gained a lot more popularity when it started to be formally taught in the 1950s. The dance is fun to watch and is considered one of the most versatile of the social dances being taught all over the world! Slow, sensual, and alluring, the Rumba is danced to 4/4 time and is characterized by a distinctive hip action called Cuban Motion.
In this solo-dancer variation on the dance, Club Professional Alexandra McPherson provides an opportunity for those without a dance partner (or those looking to finesse their skills ahead of going back to in-person dancing) the basic movements, technique, and musical elements that characterize Rumba. Fully choreographed to be followed-along or memorized for a quick 5 minute “get up and move” during a long at-home day, this class is sure to help you stay active from the safety of home.
Lastly, this dance is one of most popular dance genres for cruises and weddings. Many couples choose it for their first dance because of its sensual, romantic music and also because it is one of the easier dances to learn.
