(Dance 1B) Beginner East Coast Swing

In this Beginner-level East Coast Swing class, Club Professional Alexandra McPherson introduces you to the foundations of Swing dance. Check out the accompanying video for a sneak peak of everything she’ll be covering in this five-week course.

East Coast Swing is an American dance that can trace its roots back to the Lindy Hop that originated in the dance halls of the 1920s – 1930s. It is a great “starter dance” that can be danced to popular tunes going back to the last 8 decades or so! Fun to dance or watch, the East Coast Swing, (along with the Waltz,) is often chosen by couples to perform as their “first dance” at weddings!

Danced to a “triple time” rhythm, this form of Swing utilizes Rock steps and Triple Steps that demonstrate the “swinging action of the body.” This is a popular dance that is enjoyed all over the world so do take the time to learn it and become a part of this global Swing Dance community!

Beginner East Coast Swing – Hammer-Lock Step
